The River City Stompers
After years of wanting to perform more dixie music as part of our regular professional performing work we found that this was also the desire of a local trombone player. After a bit of hard work and rehearsal in the spring of 2012 the Rivercity Stompers were born.
The River City Stompers are a vintage jazz band coming out of the Thames Delta, bringing you music from the early days of jazz. We achieve that old jazz sound by using sousaphone and banjo for a rhythm section with trumpet, trombone and clarinet taking the lead duties. We even have the occasional vocal number. You can expect to hear tunes from the likes of Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, King Oliver and Muggsy Spanier. Although we normally work as a five piece we can provide anything from 3 to 7 musicians.
The River City Stompers are an incredibly versatile band. As we normally play acoustically we can play inside or out. In a corner for atmosphere or on the main stage for a foot stomping set. We can play in one location or play on the move. We've even been known to get down amongst the audience for a raucous end to the evening.
All the musicians are dedicated to reproducing that authentic old New Orleans sound.
